Obituary

On Wednesday November 28, 2018, Aubry Lee Stone passed away peacefully in Sacramento, California surrounded by family and loved ones. Aubry was born on August 10, 1944 in Panama City, Florida to Mr. Lee Stone and Ms. Thelma Durden. As a young child Aubry was raised by kin and kith in Birmingham, Alabama while Lee and Thelma joined the Great Migration of African Americans migrating from the south to the north, eventually settling in the Marcy Projects of Brooklyn where the family was reunited when Aubry was age four.

At the age of 18 Aubry joined the Air Force beginning what would be a 22 year career of meritorious service to his country. His duty assignments were as follows; George AFB, California (1962-1963), Tanagra Air Base, Greece (1963-1964), Andrews AFB, Maryland (1965-1968), Kleine Brogel, Belgium  (1968-1974), Tanagra Air Base, Greece (1974-1975), Camp New Amsterdam AFB, Netherlands (1975-1978), Mather AFB, Sacramento, California (1978-1984). While serving overseas, Aubry became a member of the Prince Hall Military Consistory Masonic Lodge # 134, Maryland Holding Lodge and the Shriners Aswan Temple #115.

Following his retirement from the Air Force, Aubry began an outstanding career in the public sector. His notable accomplishments include being one of the only African American Regional Managers for MetLife Insurance in the nation, and serving on the board of Directors for the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce. Aubry distinguished himself with his founding of the California Black Chamber of Commerce, serving

as CEO and President, and the founding of the United States Black Chamber of Commerce, serving as Chairman of the Board. Over the years Aubry was the recipient of numerous awards and accolades lauding his passionate advocacy of African American Economic Empowerment.

During his downtime, Aubry liked to relax by playing golf and he traveled extensively throughout the world with his clubs in tow. He also truly enjoyed reading contemporary biographical novels and African American history.

The enduring legacy of Aubry Lee Stone will be one of continuously striving for the economic well being of the African American communities nationwide and throughout the Diaspora. Founding the California Black Chamber of Commerce and the realization of KDEE 97.1 FM occupied a special place in his heart.

Aubry was predeceased by his Father Lee Stone, Mother Thelma Evans, Step-Father Sterling Evans, Sister Gloria Evans and Nephew Rodney Wiggins.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his sister Perdithia Smith of Fairbanks, Alaska. The Stone family of Birmingham, Alabama, also known as his "Posse". Two sons and daughters-in-Law, Michael Brett Stone & Tasha Stone of Phoenix, Arizona and Aubry Mark Stone & Vilma Magana Stone of Citrus Heights, California. Two step children, Moire Rasmussen of Livermore, California & Myron Stephens of Cleveland, Ohio. His Loving companion Ms. Jean Ransom of Sacramento, California. Two former wives, Ruth Dunbar of Atlanta, Georgia and Evelyn Stone of Cleveland, Ohio. His dearest cousins Barbara Jones of Virginia Beach, Virginia; James Murdoch of Los Angeles, California;

Conchita Baskins-Noel and Bernard Baskins. Seven Grandchildren, Erica Moire Stone, CW01 Robert Alexander Stone USMC, Jacqueline Victoria Lenae Stone, Brett Michael Stone, Jordan Michael Stone, Shea Howard and Kaja Rasmussen. Six Great-Grandchildren; Jason Lee Alexander Watson, Na'Aliyah Marcelin Stone, Shaheerah Watson, Naudia Jade Stone and Miracle Rae Stone. Four Nieces; Sharri Hopkins of Atlanta, Georgia; Finette Bush of Atlanta, Georgia; Jennifer Ellis of Leesburg, Florida and Charisha Wolf-Arnold, Alaska. Four Nephews; Sheldon Hopkins of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Robert Hannah of Leesburg, Florida; Jason Ellis of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Dwayne Wolfe of Anchorage, Alaska and a host of grieving relatives and business associates.

The Stone family family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dad's team of Doctor's, Dr. Ronald Sokolov his general practitioner, Dr. Philip Bach his Cardiologist, Dr. Thomas Park his surgeon, Dr. Anthony Pu his Radiologist/Oncologist and Dr. Shirish Mahajani his Oncologist. They all came together to provide the best possible care and attention. We would like to especially thank the nursing staffs at Sutter Memorial and Mercy General Hospital. Their kindness and compassion was unparalleled and we are forever grateful for the care they showed our Father Aubry Lee Stone.
