Betty Jean Johnson was born the oldest daughter to Johnnie and Zeola
Davis on May 5 1938, In Mobile, Alabama. She accepted Christ at an early age
and was baptized at First Baptist Church.
She had 2 sisters and 3 brothers. Growing up, Betty was a member of several
choruses throughout Alabama. After graduating Mobile County Training High
School, Betty went on to pursue a career in hospitality working nearly 20 years.
Betty met David Johnson and married soon after. They were married until
David's death. Betty and David traveled to many diff erent cities and states
over the 19 years David spent in the military. They had three beautiful children,
Michael, Jacqueline and Lisa all born in Mobile, Alabama.
Betty moved to Sacramento permanently in 1985. She joined Shiloh
Baptist Church later becoming a charter member and dedicated choir member
of Genesis Missionary Baptist Church in 1990. She participated in numerous
live recordings and traveled to many gospel music workshops throughout
America.
Betty Boop, as she was called by many, had a passion for cooking. She would
give the last food she had in her refrigerator to feed you. She was dedicated to
cooking wonderful Sunday meals for her family. The only rule in order to eat,
you must have attended her church that day. She also loved belting out notes
around the house as her favorite gospel music played throughout the house.
As the Matriarch of the Johnson family, she practiced what she preached.
She absolutely loved the lord and didn't mind sharing her beliefs with
whomever she met. She lived her life as a prime example of how to take care of
business as a Christian woman.
She was a tough little cookie as she only stood 4'11 . She was very strong in
body and in spirit as she fought all the way to the end of her life's journey. Betty
lived life on her terms only and didn't let anyone or anything get in her way.
She was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Zeola and her siblings
Robert and Patricia.
She leaves behind her siblings Barbra, Alphonse and Freddie Davis. Her
Legacy of Love she leaves behind Michael, Jacqueline and Lisa. Her Precious
grandchildren Ryan, Michael Jr, Brandon, Marquis, Jessica, La Kendria
(Mathew), Le Kendrick, Joceline, Bobby (Jasmine) and Sabrina. Her lovely
great grandchildren Malazia, Marquis Jr, Eriyanna, Jaishaun, Ja'Niyah, Justice,
Jeremiah, Aneisha, Mathew Jr and, Le May. And a host of relatives, friends
and church family.
She transitioned from pain and suff ering to pain free and rewards she waiting
on to received on earth.
