Clara Mae Davis was born on September 18, 1933 in Stuttgart, Arkansas to Lester Smith and Charles Larry. Lester Smith passed away when Mother Davis was 5 ½  years old.  Her grandparents took over her care until her aunt and uncle took her in.

Mother Davis met and married her first husband, Memphis Johnson, in Arkansas. They had their first child in 1952.  They moved to Spokane, Washington in 1953. From that union, Mother Davis had four children: Tommy Johnson, Janette Johnson Hogan, Sheila Johnson Lee, and Lynette Johnson. During this time, Mother Davis was a housecleaner to help the family make ends meet. This was the beginning of Mother Davis' career in the hospitality field and as a prominent member of her church community. She was an active member of the Reverend Lloyd Taylor's Community Church of God in Christ in Spokane, WA.

By the late 1960's, Mother Davis had moved to Sacramento, CA with her four children. The Community Church of God in Christ had also relocated to Sacramento, CA.  Mother Davis was a very influential member of their church family.   In January of 1970 she met a young man at a church revival named Elonzo Davis. They married in December of the same year.  From this union, Yvonne Davis Jefferson was born.

Pastor Elonzo Davis and Mother Davis founded the Greater Faith Church of God in Christ in 1973. By the early 2000's, Mother became a member of New Beginnings Ministries 2000 under the leadership of Elder Richard Hayes. He appointed her Mother of the church during this time. In addition to serving as First Lady of Greater Faith and Mother of New Beginnings Ministries 2000, Mother Davis also had a career in Hospitality Services and as a childcare provider.  She started in the Hospitality Department of the Fountain Suites Hotel and ended that career as the Night Supervisor.  She received numerous awards directly from her hotel, such as "Employee of the Month" and "Employee of the Year".  Both were given on more than one occasion.  The Nationwide Hotel and Motel Association gave her a First Place Employee of the Year Award and she was second place for that same award a few years later.  She received awards of monetary value as well. In her capacity as a childcare provider, she nurtured and loved many, many children over the years.  She became a mother figure to children that she did not even give birth to, yet treated as her own.

Mother Davis always lived for the Lord and strived to be the best and most loving person that she could be.  Her work ethic, family, and community contributions have always far exceeded everyone's expectations.  She has touched many lives throughout her lifetime.  Her spirit and light will continue to shine on everyone whose life that she has touched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Elonzo Davis.

Forever cherishing her memory are her grandchildren Andrea Hogan, Christina Hogan, Alaina Martin, Felisha Jefferson, Kaitlyn Johnson, Julian Lee; great-grandchildren Andrell, Albert, Cameron, Laiyoni, Jasmine, Nala, Demi, Demetrius; and children through marriage Frederick, Margaret, Clara, Eva, Mike, Scotty, Dottie, Sherrie; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren through marriage, children of the heart, a host of loving family, church family, and friends.
