sacramento
Clay Delano Guthery took his seat with our heavenly host on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Kaiser Permanente South. Clay (aka Clabe) was born on September 12, 1945, in Selmer, AL to Vivian J. Hodges and Issac Guthery both who preceded him in death. Clay led a life of adventure as a child, teen and young man. He enjoyed meeting people, laughing and enjoying a good time. People were drawn to his magnetic personality and bright smile, He always had a word or offered advice when needed. After enjoying life on his terms he gave his life back to God.
He worked for the United States Post Office as a mail carrier earlier in life and served as a Deacon at Christ Temple Missionary Baptist church in Sacramento, Ca., for 25 years, he enjoyed serving others and being someone that the church could rely on. He taught sunday school and at times brought a word or prayer to the congregation. As an ordained minister, serving was his ministry. With a smile on his face, he loved finding solutions to problems.
Practicing activism for equality, he was also a member of the Sacramento NAACP serving on the membership committee. He especially loved talking to those who were younger about the facts of life and his experiences. Enjoying an intellectual conversation, debating or laughing was his inspiration. Working on completing his college education, he worked hard like his father, Clay started his own business in 1992, determined to be his own boss, he became an entrepreneur.
