Gloria Ruth Colfield, at the young age of 90 went home to glory July 17, 2019 while a patient at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Sacramento, Ca. Gloria was born in Youngstown, Ohio on May 19, 1929 where she lived with her parents Lily C Fontes and Antonio V Fontes.

She was preceded in death by sisters Maxine (Dolly) Yost and Betty Rodriguez, sister in law: Geraldine Fontes, nepnew: David Fontes son in law: Earnest Robinson Jr. brother and sister in law: John and Opaline Cofield

She is survived by her four children: Christina R Stanley, Antoinette R Robinson, Tamara L Colfield, and Theodore H Colfield Jr, siblings: Anthony D Fontes, Rosemarie Fontes Alvarado, Johnny L Fontes, Frances A Fontes, sister in law: Barbara Demby grandchildren: Tyrun Stanley, Brandon Stanley, Earnest Robinson III, Sebastian Robinson, Dr. Amanda Jamal, and fraternal twins, Armani, and Adreanna Colfield, great grandchildren: Tyler Stanley, Taylor Stanley, Isiah Robinson, Nevaeh Munoz , Angelica Munoz and Sofia Velazquez (first child of Dr. Amanda Jamal), along with the most recent fifth generation addition to the family her great-great grandson Zayden Stewart, sister in law: as well as a multiple hosts of nieces and nephews.

Gloria spent much of her youth in Youngstown, Ohio where in Elementary school she made the local newspaper as a spelling bee champ. Gloria also enjoyed playing basketball as well as running track. Additionally Gloria frequently stated that the requirement to learn Latin in Elementary school allowed her the ability to communicate in three different languages English, Portuguese and Spanish. In November of 1944, she moved to Sacramento, Ca. She attended Sacramento High School where she continued to run track and enjoyed a fairly active social life involving herself in girls clubs, and debutante balls. Gloria spent her summers working the hops fields in Northern California which was back breaking work she was proud to be involved in She graduated from Sacramento High School in 1948.

In the summer of 1950 while attending Sacramento City College, Gloria went to work as a civilian at McClellan AFB. This is where she met her future husband Theodore H Colfield Sr., a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force. They were married on May 3rd 1953 and subsequently had 4 children. she was a proud military wife of 38 years a position in which she felt honor to hold.

She began her own civil service career of 34 years with the state of California in 1958. During her tenure she worked for several state agencies inclusive of EDD, DMV, SPB, and DPA. Additionally Gloria worked as a retired annuitant in the State Treasurer's Office for a short period. In lieu of her delightful personality she was dubbed the unofficial social coordinator for many of the state offices she worked. She loved to dance and bring people together, an absolute social butterfly.

She was a joyful, wonderful spirit and personality, literally never had a negative thing to say about anyone. She was a positive influence wherever she was and if you were in the same vicinity you would be the benefactor of her positive nature.

Along with her social activities Gloria supported several charities including the Police Athletic League, Wounded Warriors, Americans for Law and Justice, Disabled Veterans Association and several others. Gloria was also a member of the Cape Verdean Club, as well Vice President of the Ministry to grow young Godly women in the Church she attended. In her lifelong charitable spirit she was a skin and tissue donor, which benefits Firefighters, Burn Victims and cancer patients.

Gloria also loved to travel where she had the opportunity to visit Europe, South America, Hawaii, and Alaska as well as taking several Caribbean cruises. She always returned home with new friends and acquaintances which she made it a point to keep in contact with.

Gloria was truly admired while exhibiting the Christ like qualities of forgiveness and unconditional love throughout her life. She continually sacrificed and gave of herself with joy and a smile never complaining or thinking of herself. She was truly loved and will be sorely missed by family, friends and her extended family around the world.
