Dear family and friends, James Reed passed away the night of Monday, October 3rd, 2022, while in the
care of Cottonwood Post-Acute Skilled Nursing Facility, in Woodland, California.
James Edward Reed was born on September 27th, 1946 in El Dorado, Arkansas to James and Myrtis
Reed. James was the second of seven children.
James graduated from Mission High School, in San Francsico, California. After high school, James
enlisted in the Marines in June of 1964. He was an active-duty service man during the Vietnam War. We
are so grateful for his service. James was honorably discharged July of 1967. Once discharged, he met
and married his only wife, Severa, in 1968. They had their first of three children in 1969.
James loved sports, his favorite being baseball. He played and traveled around with his baseball team for
many years and built lifelong friendships. He also loved to box. While in the military, he participated in
boxing matchings amongst his platoon. He loved cars, travel, cooking, and of course eating. He loved to
make people laugh and was a social butterfly. He always had one of his hilarious jokes ready to go. He
was loved by all and a friend to many. Above all else, James truly loved his family with all his heart. He
loved spending time with them more than anything. He was caring and loving and always willing to lend
a hand. He had a heart to give and forgive. He was truly one of a kind.
James is preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother Donald Ray, and sister, Wanda.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his younger brothers and sisters, Doug, Deborah, Viola, and
Eric. His wife, Severa, and children, Zena, Zenasia, and Zeneka. His grandchildren, Jenise, Kamara, Jasz,
Journi, Jezell, Joyous, Janaye, Jeniyah, Kingston, and Noa. His nieces and nephew, Sharita, Ajaya, and
Cooper. Along with a host of family and friends.
