John Stephen Osborn (age 77) returned home to his heavenly Father July 6, 2019 at Kaiser Morse Hospital in Sacramento, California.
John was born on October 30, 1941 to Judge Walter Osborn Jr. and Marjorie McMullen at Saint Luke's Hospital in San Francisco, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Lawrence Daniel Osborn.
Raised in Bakersfield, California, he attended East Bakersfield High School where he lettered in football and basketball. Upon graduation he studied at San Jose State University and was accepted into an exchange student program in Tokyo, Japan for one year where he studied Judo and climbed Mount Fuji. He later attended University of California, Berkeley before enlisting into the United States Air Force in September 1964.
John attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas and received advanced training in aircraft radio repair at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, later serving at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, the Royal Thai Air Force Base, Ubon, Thailand and Mather Air Force Base, California. He was honorably discharged in September 1968 at the rank of Sergeant. His awards and decorations included, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal & Air Force Good Conduct Medal.
While at Keesler, he met his future bride, Emily Faye Johansson at a New Years Eve party. They were married December 27, 1965 and he spent 53 years with the love of his life. Upon discharge from the Air Force, they settled in Sacramento, California. The couple were blessed with five children, John Christopher Waddington Osborn, Shanna Kathleen Stagner, Stephany Gabrin Booth, David Patrick Osborn & Peter Daniel Osborn. John was a grandfather of six, Andrew, William, Leeanne, Trevor, Addison & Eleanor, and Father in Law to Eli, Tim and Meghan.
John had a wide variety of professional interests, with the bulk of his career spent as an Auditor for the State of California. In his working life, he was also the owner of a cattle ranch, a commodities trader and a postman.
An avid athlete, John competed as an Ironman in Eppie's Great Race for over 20 years.
He had fond memories of camping at Yosemite with his grandparents and brother Larry and canoeing with his brother Larry on Lake Merritt.
John Stephen Osborn will be interred with full military honors at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, California.
