Martha Lourine Johnson-Mitchell was born August 13, 1944, in Evansville Indiana; The eighth child of the Eleven children from the union of Norman D. Johnson and Arletta M. Elrod - Johnson. Martha Attended Lincoln Elementary and High School and graduated in the class of 1962.
After graduation, Martha moved to Sacramento, California where she later married the love of her life and soul mate, Marvin L. Mitchell SR. From this union two daughters and one son were born.
Martha worked at Campbell soup Company for a few years and later worked at Regional Transit Bus Company of Sacramento for many years until she retired. Martha having been raised in a devout Christian home, gave her life to Jesus Christ as a small child. She and her family attended St. John's Methodist Church in Evansville, Indiana.
In Sacramento Martha was a member of The First Baptist Tabernacle Church Under Reverend Tillman Wade, Sr. She also was a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board under the leadership of Pastor Tillman Wade, JR.
Martha moved to Denver Colorado in 1994 where she served as an active member and employee of Heritage Christian Center under the leadership of Pastor Dennis Leonard. Upon her return from Denver Martha became a member of Jubilare Evangelistic Ministries, under the Leadership of Pastor Ronnie Walton. Martha was an 8-year member of the Bible Study Fellowship School in Greenhaven south Sacramento. Martha had a thirst after the word of God and she religiously was on her morning prayer call with her prayer partners Ms. Etha Brown and Ms. Vernon Reece.
Martha was an avid hat collector and shopper. Martha really knew how to put an outfit together accessories and all. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends which usually consisted of fried chicken and smothered potatoes, Everyone's favorite. She was especially fond of hanging out with her senior friends at the Sam Panel Center playing Bid whist. Martha was a superb dancer and won most of the dance contest growing up.
Martha leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Shawntae Mitchell, daughter Rhonda Ernest (Ralph), son Marvin Mitchell, JR., Three grandchildren Brandon Bell, Devon Mitchell and Larry King. Three sisters Wanda Hines, Juliette Clardy (Odell) Emily Starks (Herbie). Five brothers, Kenneth Johnson, Orlando Johnson, Russell Johnson (Nicey), Richard Johnson (Barbara) and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
