Mother Mary Bernetta Gray-Hampton, the second child of ten born to the late Rev D.G. Gray Sr. & Mrs.
Lillian Bernice Douglas-Gray. Mother Mary gave her life to the Lord at the age of 10, at Old Bethel
Baptist Church in Bolivar, Tennessee under the leadership of her father, Rev D.G. Gray Sr. She was given
the "mourning bench experience" throughout her childhood. She was often called the "Mother Hen" of
the family and was considered a great nurse by her father. In her younger years, Mother Mary grew up
and attended schools in Memphis, TN. Upon graduating from Melrose High School, she moved to
California. During her journey, she attended Sacramento City College, completing two years of her
medical assistant course, as well as attended California State University Sacramento. Even in her senior
years of life, Mother Mary's dream to become a college graduate. She believed you were never too old
to accomplish your dreams.

Mother Mary, was a dedicated member of St. John Baptist Church for more than 20 years under the
leadership of the late Rev. William E. Heights. She was a Sunday School teacher; Junior Mission
Ministries Leader; choir member and a Director of the Christian Youth Camp for six years. She had a
vision from God for her to do His Will. She later became member of The Bible Fellowship Church under
the leadership of her brother, Rev. D. G. Gray Jr., and later becoming a faithful member of Center of
Praise Ministries, under the leadership of Bishop Lovelace. She served as a faithful mother on the
Mother's board. Mother Mary, loved doing the Will of God, no matter what it called her to do. She
worked in various hospitals, nursing homes, and private residences as a medical assistant. She also
worked years as a medical assistant and substance counselor for the Federal Government in Menlo Park,
CA., before moving to Sacramento, working for the State of California for 25 years, finally retiring in
March 2009. She never stopped doing God's Will and helping other's find employment.

Mother Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest sister Virginia R. Malone of
Memphis, TN. Her memory will live on through her two "God blessed" children, Paul K. Hampton Sr.,
(wife Candice Hampton) and Nichole C. Williams, (husband Rev. Tommie Williams Sr. ) Her nine
grandchildren, Paul II, Cameron, Kaila and Kennedi Hampton, Tommie Jr., Mark, Shanique, Sheyanne and
Shayla Williams, as well as her three great grandchildren, Naveah Hampton, Nyleah and Riley Williams.
She is also survived by her five brothers: Daniel Gray of St. Louis, MO., John Gray, Micheal Gray
(Bernadette) and Rev. Robert Gray (Veronica) all of Memphis TN., Rev. D.G Gray Jr. (Alda) of Fort Worth,
TX. and three sisters: Carolyn Gray and Judy Gray of Memphis, TN. and Sharon Corum of Sacramento,
CA. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
