Mervin Leroy Hills was called home on Sunday, August 9, 2020. He was born in Ogden, Utah at Hill Air Force Base on February 24, 1958, and was the 2nd child born to the union of Wilbert and Claudette Hills.

At birth Mervin was diagnosed with a number of birth defects and medical professionals didn't project a long-life expectancy for Mervin Leroy Hills (Mervin had other plans).

Growing up as a child of a career military father, Mervin and his siblings settled in in Fairfield, California in 1971. Once settled, Mervin was placed into the Fairfield school system where he enjoyed going to school and riding bus 14 at 9:30. That was something he would repeat over and over if you asked him. Mervin also participated in sporting events and other school activities.

Mervin enjoyed school. He enjoyed being part of the crew and being with his classmates especially, one young man named 'Reggie'. One-day Reggie told Mervin that he wanted to go home and that's where Mervin was headed when the teachers caught him pushing Reggie down the street and away from the school! Mervin could be helpful and defiant all in one.

During his childhood and into adulthood Mervin loved being Bernell's little brother and being the big brother to Tiny, Donald, Ronald, Eugene, Howard and Billy. Mervin never hesitated to let it be known that you were his younger siblings and he was the Big Brother by the way he spoke your name when you did something that he didn't approve of. He loved competing in Special Olympics and watching sports. Whenever a baseball game was on the radio or TV and he would hear the crack of the bat, he would exclaim, "Home Run"!! The amazing thing about Mervin was it would be a home run and most of the time he wouldn't be looking at the TV, but he just knew by the sound the ball made coming off the bat.

Mervin was a special Person, Son, Brother, Nephew, Uncle and Friend to all whom he met!

Mervin is survived by his Father, 6 siblings and his nieces and nephews; Wilbert Hills (Sandra), Bernell Hills (Alma), Helen Waddell (John), Donald Hills (LaJuannah), Ronald Hills (Tracy), Howard Hills, William Hills (Julie), Anthony Hills (Sonja), Duane Hills (Teresa) , DeMario Hills, Rodney Sandles (Jennifer), Carlayna Oxford, Charles Oxford Jr, Richard Hills, Ronald Hills, Dante Hills, Honisha Hills, Lyric Guidry , Lola Hills, Lily Hills Landon Hills, Heaven Washington, Johntae Shaw, Shawntae Hill, Rico Cox, Eugene A. Hills Jr, Esther Hills and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and Friends.

Mervin was preceded in death by his Grandmother (Jeanette Weadd Jones) Mother (Claudette Teresa Hills) and Brother (Eugene Aaron Hills).
