Early Life and Family

Michael DeWitt Jennings was born on November 9, 1950, in Fresno, California, to
Alonzo Jennings Sr. and Christine (Townsend) Jennings. At the age of 10 years old he
was baptized at Fresno Temple Church of God in Christ Under the pastoring of Bishop
W. Wilson. At the age of sixteen, he moved to Sacramento, California, where he
attended Sacramento High School.

In early 1970, Michael joined the United States Army. During that time, he married
Gwendolyn Smith, and their union was blessed with a daughter, Michele Lisitte
Jennings, born on July 31, 1971, in Sacramento, California.

On January 3, 1980, Michael married Vera Ethel Youker. Through that union, he
became a father to Kirkum Youker and was blessed with Jennifer Christine Jennings.

A Life Remembered

Michael was known for his contagious sense of humor, his joyful laughter and love of
dancing. He found joy in life's simple pleasures, including fishing and gardening.
Michael had a deep appreciation for nature and could identify many trees and plants,
reflecting his passion for horticulture. Michael also enjoyed spending time with family
and helping those around him, which reflected his devotion and love for family and
friends.

He always had a story to share from years gone by and a special way of making others
laugh. His warmth, kindness, and joyful spirit will be remembered by all who knew and
loved him.

Waiting to Welcome Him Home

Waiting to welcome Michael home in Heaven are his parents Alonzo Jennings Sr. 2004
and Christine Jennings 2020; his wife Vera Jennings 2025; his former wife Gwendolyn
Smith 2008; his daughter Jennifer Green 2023; his son Kirk Youker 2002; his sisters
Patricia Jennings 1944; and Dolly Jennings Harding 2009; and his brother Glenn Wade
Jennings 2024.

Left to Cherish His Memory

Michael leaves behind loved ones who will forever cherish his memory, including:

Forever in Our Hearts

Michael had a congenial and joyful spirit. He was known for his generosity, kindness,
and expressive nature, and he lived as a stand-up man with heart and courage. To
know him was to love him, and he will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.
