Terry
Allen
May 5, 1960 — Aug 24, 2021
Sacramento
On May 5, 1960, Terry Lee Allen was born to parents, Walter Linwood Allen and Lucille Smedley-Allen in Martinez, CA. Terry was the youngest of 11 children. He and his family grew up in Richmond, CA.
Terry attended Nystrom Elementary, Downer Jr High and in 1978 graduated from Harry Ells High School. Terry played little league and high school baseball. He went on to take some courses at Contra Costa College in an effort to pursue his baseball career.
From a child, Terry was quiet for the most part, but could be very outspoken at times when the right situation arose. To his family Terry was the affordable go to sitter. When the siblings would drop their children off Terry would let the parents drive off and say, "alright y'all ready for bed?"
As an adult Terry worked several years for the City of Richmond, Chevron and other odd jobs. His passion however, was serving and caring for others. He then became a Care Provider which was the core of who Terry was.
Terry had a unique way of sharing his joy and love to those who knew him best. He had a habit of greeting his loved ones with "Hey Dirt", and they knew that was a term of endearment. Although Terry had no biological children of his own, it was that same humor that kept so many of his nieces, nephews and cousins connected to him.
Terry grew up in the Missionary C.O.G.I.C. in Berkeley, CA under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Gordon W. Choyce Sr. so Terry knew the Lord. After a devastating loss in 2014, Terry relocated to Sacramento from Richmond where he lived his entire life. He then joined and began serving faithfully at Destiny Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Yardley Griffin Sr. and Pastor Yardley Griffin Jr.
While faithfully serving at Destiny Church, Terry prayed for a wife. While serving side by side in the ministry, Terry and Laurie's heart connected and they fell in love. On August 8, 2018 Terry and Laurie were united in marriage. Terry lived out his best life in Sacramento with his new family until his passing.
Terry, that quiet, funny, confident man who loved his wife, children and family also enjoyed watching and attending sporting events for his favorite teams, the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders and the Golden State Warriors; but most importantly that man loved the Lord.
Terry departed this life on August 24, 2021. He was proceeded in death by his father, Walter Linwood Allen, four brothers, Charles Allen-Ross, Linwood Allen, Ronnie Allen Sr. and Larry Allen, one sister, Brenda Allen.
Terry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Laurie Allen, step daughters Gabrielle Freitas, Shenee Furlough, Brie Belcher, Julia, Annie and Daisy Akang, one foster son, Zerrik Ihde, his mother, Lucille Killingsworth (Nehemiah), three brothers, Sylvester, Bernard and Michael Allen, two sisters, Mary Allen-Crowley and Linda Hawkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Terry will forever be missed but never forgotten. We love you.
